A home charge point isn’t a plug on the wall. It draws a steady 7kW for hours at a time, so it needs its own circuit run straight back to your consumer unit, with the right earthing and protection behind it. Do that and you can top the car up overnight, on a cheaper night-time tariff, and wake up to a full battery. A 7kW unit adds roughly 25–30 miles of range an hour, so most cars are done well before morning; a normal 3-pin socket does a fraction of that.
We come out (or work from your photos), check the board, the earthing and the route to your parking spot, then give you one fixed price. On the day we run the new circuit, mount the charger, keep the cable run neat and weatherproof, and add load management where your supply needs it so the charger eases off if the house is already working hard. Then we test the lot, certify it and notify building control under Part P through our NICEIC registration, and set the charger up on its app before we leave.

A standard 3-pin plug manages only a fraction of that and isn’t built for charging night after night, which is why a proper dedicated charger is worth it.
A tethered charger has the cable permanently attached, so you just grab it and plug in, no carrying a cable about. An untethered (socketed) unit is neater on the wall and lets you swap the cable if you change cars. There’s no wrong answer; we’ll talk it through against how you park and what you drive.
For a standard home install, yes, you need somewhere to park off the public road, because a charging cable can’t trail across a pavement people are walking on. If you park on the street, the rules are different and there may be council or grant-backed options; tell us your setup and we’ll point you the right way.
Most homes are fine. Where a supply is on the tighter side, we fit load management, a small sensor (a CT clamp) that lets the charger ease back automatically if the oven, shower and kettle are all on at once, so you never trip the main fuse. Checking this is part of why we look before we quote rather than guessing.
Grants have changed a lot over the years. The old scheme for homeowners with a driveway has ended, but there’s still support for people in rented homes and flats, and for landlords fitting chargers for tenants.
