What it involves

Small jobs, done to the same standard

A socket or a switch looks like a five-minute job, and sometimes it is. But behind the faceplate it’s carrying the full load of whatever’s plugged in, so it’s worth doing properly. We’ll add points where you actually need them, swap dated or damaged accessories for clean modern ones, and get to the bottom of anything that’s dead, loose or playing up, rather than just papering over it.

Where we can add a socket off an existing circuit on a fused spur, we will; where a job needs its own supply or a bit of making good, we’ll say so up front and price it in. Everything is fitted to the current wiring regulations, tested, and left tidy, with the wall made good so you’re not left with a mess to fill. It’s the same care we’d put into a full rewire, on a job that takes an hour.

A socket that feels warm, buzzes or shows scorch marks isn’t one to live with, stop using it and give us a call. If it can’t wait, we also cover emergency call-outs across South West London and Surrey.

How we do it

From first message to made good

01

You call or message

Tell us the job and your postcode. We usually pick up, and if we’re on the tools, we call straight back.

02

We price it up front

We look at what’s actually needed and give you a free, fixed price. Hourly work is charged at our published rates.

03

We do it and certify it

We turn up when we said, keep it tidy, test everything and hand over the certificates, with notifiable work registered through NICEIC.

Good to know

Socket & switch questions, answered

Usually, yes. In most rooms we can run a new socket off the existing ring on a fused spur, which means no rewire and far less mess. We’ll check the circuit isn’t already loaded up first; if it is, we’ll tell you the sensible way to do it rather than overload something.

All the time. USB and USB-C sockets are one of our most-asked jobs, and dimmers and smart switches are straightforward on most circuits. With smart and LED-friendly dimmers it’s worth matching the switch to your bulbs, and we’ll sort that so you don’t get flicker or buzz.

Treat it as serious. Warmth, a buzzing or crackling sound, brown scorch marks or a burning smell all point to a loose or failing connection, which is a fire risk. Stop using that socket, switch it off at the board if you can, and call us. If it can’t wait, we cover emergency call-outs too.

Yes. Outdoor sockets need a weatherproof (IP-rated) unit and RCD protection so a fault outside can’t give anyone a shock. We’ll run it from a sensible point, seal it properly against the weather, and test it before we leave, whether it’s for the garden, a garage or a shed.

For most socket and switch work we provide a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate confirming it’s been tested and is safe. Some jobs, like a new circuit or work in a bathroom, are notifiable under Part P, and we handle the building control notification for you through our NICEIC registration. We’ll tell you which applies before we start.

Definitely, no job’s too small. If you’ve a short list, a new socket here, a faulty switch there, a USB point in the bedroom, it’s usually cheaper to have us do it all in one visit than to call us out separately. Note it all down and we’ll price the whole thing.
